Next we had the opportunity to experience one of the most interesting bazaars in the entire Middle East. Established in 1382, it is named after Prince Jaharkas Al-Khalili, a powerful Mamluke Prince.
Ruth has been shopping here for years and knows just where to buy the best scarves and belly-dancing finery (for the best price). Janice joined Ruth and found many “wonderful things.”

I relaxed with Ehab at the Sheikh Shavan coffee shop.
We drank black tea served with a sprig of fresh mint.
He enjoyed the shisha (apple tobacco from a hookah) and worked on his laptop. |
A very rare occurrence happened,
it rained in Cairo!
Because of the heavy pollution that chokes this city of 22 million, the rain made thick grey dots on my black pants...
I joked that the downpour followed us from Seattle... |
